How to Install Pre-Assembled Cabinets: A Beginner’s Guide

Installing your new cabinets doesn’t have to be complicated — especially when they’re pre-assembled. Here’s how beginners and first-time renovators can install Affordable Cabinets step-by-step without stress.

🧰 What You’ll Need

  • Pencil and measuring tape

  • Level

  • Stud finder

  • Power drill & screws

  • Shims

  • Cabinet jack (optional but helpful)

  • A second set of hands (recommended for uppers)

📐 Step-by-Step: Base Cabinet Installation

1️⃣ Step 1: Mark the Layout

Use your pencil and level to draw horizontal lines across the wall to mark:

  • Base cabinet height

  • Top of toe kicks

  • Plumbing or gas lines

Make sure your layout matches your measurement form or approved design.

2️⃣ Step 2: Find the Studs

Use a stud finder to locate wall studs. Mark them with vertical lines — you’ll be anchoring into these.

3️⃣ Step 3: Set the First Cabinet

Start from a corner or the most visible side.

  • Place the first cabinet box

  • Check that it’s level side-to-side and front-to-back

  • Use shims underneath if the floor is uneven

  • Screw the cabinet into studs (usually 2 ½" cabinet screws work best)

4️⃣ Step 4: Add the Next Cabinets

Repeat the process:

  • Line up the next cabinet box

  • Clamp the faces together

  • Drill small pilot holes and use screws to attach boxes together

  • Anchor to wall studs

  • Check for level and adjust as needed

5️⃣ Step 5: Install Panels and Toe Kicks

  • Apply toe kicks using construction adhesive or small nails

  • Install finished end panels or fillers where needed

  • Add soft-close doors (already mounted), adjust hinges if necessary

🚀 Installing Upper Cabinets

  • Always install uppers first so you don’t have to reach over base cabinets

  • Use a cabinet jack or two people to hold it in place

  • Make sure they're level and securely anchored to studs

🔧 Tips from the Pros

  • Use painter’s tape on your floor to mark cabinet edges before you start

  • Don’t overtighten screws — it can warp the cabinet

  • Always install filler strips where cabinets meet walls or appliances for a clean finish

  • Adjust soft-close hinges after installation for perfect alignment

💡 Our Recommendation

Even if you’ve never installed cabinets before, you can handle it — especially when they arrive pre-built, aligned, and ready to mount.
